In the first year of a new culture, you can expect:
- Some turnover
When you create your culture, the people who don’t fit will show themselves. You must be willing to let them go. Your culture will only grow if the people in your organization fit the culture. If you think they can be a good fit with an attitude adjustment, speak with them and give them a month to prove themselves. If you doubt they will change, do yourself and them a favor and let them go.
Your new culture will feel clunky at first. You will make plenty of mistakes. This is why it is important for you to say connected to us on the MLN membership site. There, you can ask questions, get feedback, and discuss issues with trained staff and other businesses. You will receive ongoing instruction. I’d also recommend you hire a personal coach to help you through the first year. However, this manual provides all you need to create your culture, so just keep practicing the principles until you get it right. Success experts have shown it takes 9 failures before you reach your ideal, so try, try, and try again.
We’ve had clients who’ve grown as much as 500% in the first year of their new culture. The standard growth is 100%. Therefore, you will be hiring and creating new systems at an exponential rate. This can be overwhelming. It’s a good problem to have, but make sure you stay connected.
- Authenticity, passion, and care
Believe it or not, this is hard for many business owners to accept. Most are used to employees whom they must push, pull, and prod to do their job. When people take ownership of the culture, they push, pull, and prod themselves. With this you will see authenticity in their communication. You will see passion in their effort and you will see them care for their teammates. You need to accept this and allow people room to make mistakes and grow. Don’t squelch this, work with it.
New ventures start off with a bang. Creating Culture is no different. The first 3 months you will see tremendous changes in attitude, action, and results. You will feel like you’re on top of the world. The team belief will be high and there will be temptation to rest. You cannot allow that to happen. After 3 months, the emotions will wear off. This is when great leadership takes over. It is up to the leaders to keep disciplined in the processes you’ve learned in this manual. It is also up to the leaders to stir emotions. Emotion combined with discipline is the most powerful force in the world. However, if you were to choose between the two, choose discipline, because discipline will keep you on the right path towards cultural success.
Refine your philosophy. Know the 3 levels of culture. Have great leadership. Tear down walls of poor philosophy. Build new walls. Work yourself out of a job. Remember, you are not alone. At MLN, we are here to walk with you, listen to you, and guide you as you create your culture. We have an unyielding passion to see people live fulfilled and impactful lives. If you need help, get on the membership site, send an email, or pick up the phone and call. We will respond.
May God bless you as you Create a Culture that is prosperous and fulfilling.
